Born on March 1, 1904, in Clarinda, Iowa, Miller showed an early talent for music and began his career playing the trombone in various bands. In 1938, he formed the Glenn Miller Orchestra, which quickly rose to fame with hits such as "In the Mood," "Moonlight Serenade," and "Chattanooga Choo Choo." Miller's unique blend of swing and jazz music captured the hearts of audiences around the world, making him one of the best-selling recording artists of his time. During World War II, Miller enlisted in the U.S. Army and led the Army Air Force Band, entertaining troops both at home and overseas.
