Tanya Donelly is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist known for her work in influential alternative rock bands such as Throwing Muses, The Breeders, and Belly. Born on July 14, 1966, in Newport, Rhode Island, Donelly began her music career in the late 1980s as a founding member of Throwing Muses alongside her stepsister Kristin Hersh. She later joined The Breeders, contributing to their debut album "Pod" before forming her own band, Belly, in 1991. Belly achieved commercial success with their debut album "Star" in 1993, which featured the hit single "Feed the Tree." Donelly's distinctive voice and introspective songwriting style garnered critical acclaim and a dedicated fan base. After Belly disbanded in the late 1990s, Donelly pursued a solo career, releasing several albums including "Lovesongs for Underdogs" and "Whiskey Tango Ghosts."
