Artist Biography
Genesis is a progressive rock band formed in 1967 in Surrey, England. The original lineup consisted of Peter Gabriel, Tony Banks, Mike Rutherford, Anthony Phillips, and Chris Stewart. Over the years, the band underwent several lineup changes, with Phil Collins eventually taking over as lead vocalist after Gabriel's departure in 1975. Genesis gained popularity in the 1970s for their elaborate stage performances and complex musical compositions. They released a string of successful albums, including "Foxtrot," "Selling England by the Pound," and "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway." In the 1980s, Genesis transitioned to a more pop-oriented sound, which brought them even greater commercial success. Hits like "Invisible Touch" and "Land of Confusion" topped the charts and solidified their status as one of the most successful bands of the era. Despite further lineup changes and solo projects pursued by its members, Genesis continued to perform and record music until their retirement in 2007. They left a lasting legacy in the world of progressive rock and pop music.
