Richard Robbins was an American composer and pianist known for his work in film scores. Born on December 4, 1940, in South Weymouth, Massachusetts, Robbins studied music at the New England Conservatory of Music and later at the Manhattan School of Music. He began his career as a pianist, performing in various venues and working with renowned musicians. Robbins gained recognition for his collaborations with film director James Ivory and producer Ismail Merchant, composing music for many of their acclaimed films, including "Howards End," "The Remains of the Day," and "A Room with a View." His work on these films earned him critical acclaim and several award nominations, including an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Score. In addition to his film work, Robbins also composed music for television and the concert hall. He was known for his lyrical and emotive compositions, often blending classical and contemporary elements to create evocative and memorable music. Richard Robbins passed away on November 7, 2012, leaving behind a legacy of beautiful and timeless music.
