Artist Biography

Anonymous 4 was an American female a cappella vocal quartet that specialized in medieval music. Formed in 1986, the group took their name from an anonymous 13th-century English music manuscript. Consisting of Marsha Genensky, Susan Hellauer, Ruth Cunningham, and Jacqueline Horner-Kwiatek, Anonymous 4 gained international acclaim for their pure, ethereal vocal blend and impeccable musicianship. The quartet's repertoire focused primarily on medieval chant, polyphony, and early polyphonic music from the 12th to 15th centuries. They performed in a variety of venues, from concert halls to cathedrals, and released numerous recordings on the Harmonia Mundi label. Throughout their career, Anonymous 4 received critical acclaim and won several awards for their recordings, including a Grammy nomination. They disbanded in 2016 after three decades of performing together, leaving behind a legacy of exquisite interpretations of medieval music that continue to inspire and captivate audiences worldwide.
