He gained fame as the drummer and lead singer of the rock band Genesis, which he joined in 1969. Collins contributed to the band's success with his distinctive drumming style and powerful vocals, helping to shape their progressive rock sound in the 1970s and their more mainstream pop-rock success in the 1980s.
