Franz Schubert was an Austrian composer born on January 31, 1797, in Himmelpfortgrund, a suburb of Vienna. He is one of the most significant figures in Western classical music, bridging the Classical and Romantic eras. Schubert displayed remarkable musical talent from an early age and began composing as a teenager, producing a vast body of work that includes symphonies, operas, chamber music, and over 600 lieder (songs). Despite his prolific output, Schubert struggled with recognition during his lifetime and often lived in poverty. His music is characterized by its lyrical melodies, rich harmonies, and emotional depth. Some of his most famous works include the "Unfinished Symphony," "Ave Maria," and the song cycle "Die schöne Müllerin." Schubert's innovative approach to form and harmony laid the groundwork for later composers, influencing figures such as Johannes Brahms and Gustav Mahler. He died at the young age of 31 on November 19, 1828, but left a lasting legacy that continues to resonate in the world of classical music today.
