Artist Biography
Lynyrd Skynyrd is an American rock band formed in Jacksonville, Florida in 1964. The band gained fame for their distinctive Southern rock sound and powerful live performances. Lynyrd Skynyrd's original lineup featured lead vocalist Ronnie Van Zant, guitarists Gary Rossington and Allen Collins, bassist Leon Wilkeson, drummer Bob Burns, and keyboardist Billy Powell. Their signature songs include "Sweet Home Alabama," "Free Bird," and "Simple Man," which have become iconic rock anthems. Tragically, the band was struck by a devastating plane crash in 1977 that resulted in the deaths of several members, including Ronnie Van Zant. Despite this heartbreaking loss, Lynyrd Skynyrd persevered and continued to create music in honor of their fallen bandmates. Over the years, Lynyrd Skynyrd has undergone numerous lineup changes but has maintained a loyal fan base and legacy as one of the greatest Southern rock bands of all time. Their music continues to inspire generations of rock fans around the world.
