Artist Biography

This Mortal Coil was a British music collective formed in 1983 by Ivo Watts-Russell, founder of the record label 4AD. The group was known for creating ethereal and atmospheric music that blended elements of dream pop, post-punk, and ambient music. Comprised of a rotating lineup of musicians and vocalists, This Mortal Coil released three studio albums between 1984 and 1991. Their debut album, "It'll End in Tears," featured haunting covers of songs by artists such as Tim Buckley and Big Star, and received critical acclaim for its unique and mesmerizing sound. The follow-up albums, "Filigree & Shadow" and "Blood," continued to explore dark and introspective themes through their music. Despite never achieving mainstream commercial success, This Mortal Coil developed a cult following and is regarded as a pioneering force in the alternative music scene of the 1980s. Their music continues to influence and inspire artists across various genres to this day.
