Artist Biography
Tim Hart (1948-2009) was an English folk singer and multi-instrumentalist best known for being a founding member of the folk rock band Steeleye Span. Born in Lincolnshire, Hart was a talented musician who played various instruments including guitar, banjo, and dulcimer. He formed Steeleye Span in 1969 with his musical partner Maddy Prior, and the band went on to achieve great success blending traditional folk songs with a contemporary rock sound. Hart's distinctive vocals and instrumental skills were integral to the sound of Steeleye Span, and he contributed significantly to the band's early albums such as "Hark! The Village Wait" and "Please to See the King." His passion for folk music and innovative approach to arrangements helped Steeleye Span stand out in the British folk rock scene of the 1970s. After leaving Steeleye Span in the late 1970s, Tim Hart continued to pursue music through solo projects and collaborations with other artists. He remained a respected figure in the folk music community until his passing in 2009.
