Artist Biography
Fountains of Wayne was an American rock band formed in New York City in 1995. The band was founded by songwriters Adam Schlesinger and Chris Collingwood, who met as students at Williams College. The band's name was inspired by a lawn ornament store in Wayne, New Jersey. Fountains of Wayne gained mainstream success with their hit single "Stacy's Mom" in 2003, which earned them a Grammy nomination for Best Vocal Pop Performance. The band was known for their catchy melodies, witty lyrics, and power-pop sound that drew influences from 1960s and 1970s rock music. Throughout their career, Fountains of Wayne released five studio albums, including their self-titled debut album in 1996 and "Welcome Interstate Managers" in 2003. The band garnered a dedicated fan base and critical acclaim for their clever songwriting and infectious hooks. Tragically, Fountains of Wayne disbanded in 2013 following the death of co-founder Adam Schlesinger due to complications from COVID-19 in 2020.
