Artist Biography

Tom Paxton is an American folk singer-songwriter who emerged during the Greenwich Village folk revival of the 1960s. Born on October 31, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois, Paxton began writing songs while serving in the U.S. Army in the late 1950s. His music is known for its poignant and socially conscious lyrics, often addressing political and social issues of the time. Paxton's career took off in the early 1960s with the release of his debut album, "I'm the Man That Built the Bridges." He quickly gained a following for his heartfelt storytelling and melodic folk tunes. Some of his most well-known songs include "The Last Thing on My Mind," "Ramblin' Boy," and "Bottle of Wine." Throughout his career, Paxton has released over 60 albums and continues to perform and record music to this day. He has received numerous awards for his contributions to folk music, including a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009. Tom Paxton remains a beloved figure in the folk music community, known for his timeless songs and enduring activism.
