About Judy Garland

Judy Garland was an iconic American actress and singer, born Frances Ethel Gumm on June 10, 1922, in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. She began her career in vaudeville at a young age, performing with her sisters as "The Gumm Sisters." Her big break came when she signed with MGM in 1935, where she became a star with her powerful voice and captivating performances. Garland is perhaps best known for her role as Dorothy in the classic film "The Wizard of Oz" (1939), where she sang the unforgettable song "Over the Rainbow." Throughout her career, she starred in numerous successful films, including "Meet Me in St. Louis" (1944) and "A Star is Born" (1954), showcasing her exceptional talent and versatility. Despite her professional success, Garland faced personal struggles, including battles with addiction and tumultuous relationships. She was awarded a special Academy Award in 1940 for her performance in "The Wizard of Oz" and received multiple Grammy Awards later in life. Judy Garland passed away on June 22, 1969, but her legacy as one of the greatest entertainers in American history endures.
