Artist Biography
Beastie Boys were an American hip hop group formed in 1981 in New York City. The group was composed of Michael "Mike D" Diamond, Adam "MCA" Yauch, and Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz. Initially starting as a hardcore punk band, Beastie Boys transitioned to hip hop and became one of the most influential and popular groups in the genre. Their debut album, "Licensed to Ill," released in 1986, was the first rap album to top the Billboard 200 chart. The Beastie Boys were known for their eclectic sampling, witty lyrics, and innovative music videos. They continued to release successful albums throughout the '80s, '90s, and 2000s, earning critical acclaim and a dedicated fan base. Tragically, Adam Yauch passed away in 2012, leading to the disbandment of the group. Beastie Boys left a lasting impact on hip hop music and culture, being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012.
