Artist Biography
Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741) was an Italian Baroque composer, virtuoso violinist, teacher, and cleric. He is recognized as one of the greatest Baroque composers, particularly known for his instrumental compositions, especially concertos. Vivaldi composed over 500 concertos, with his most famous work being "The Four Seasons," a set of four violin concertos that depict the different seasons of the year. Born in Venice, Vivaldi trained for the priesthood and was ordained in 1703. He worked at the Ospedale della Pietà, a home for abandoned children where he taught music and composed most of his major works. Vivaldi's music is characterized by its rhythmic drive, virtuosic violin passages, and innovative use of harmony and melody. Despite falling into obscurity after his death, Vivaldi's music experienced a revival in the 20th century and is now celebrated worldwide for its beauty and emotional depth.
