Artist Biography

Glenn Miller was an American big-band trombonist, arranger, composer, and bandleader in the swing era. He was born on March 1, 1904, in Clarinda, Iowa, and became one of the most popular and successful dance bandleaders of his time. Miller's unique sound and arrangements helped define the big band sound of the 1930s and 1940s. Some of his most famous hits include "In the Mood," "Moonlight Serenade," and "Chattanooga Choo Choo." During World War II, Miller enlisted in the military and led the Army Air Force Band, entertaining troops and boosting morale with his music. Tragically, Glenn Miller disappeared in a plane crash over the English Channel on December 15, 1944, while he was traveling to entertain U.S. troops in France. Despite his untimely death, his music continues to be beloved by audiences around the world, and he is remembered as one of the greatest bandleaders in the history of jazz and swing music.
