Jackie Wilson, born on June 9, 1934, in Detroit, Michigan, was an American singer known for his dynamic stage presence and powerful voice. He rose to fame in the late 1950s and early 1960s as a solo artist after starting his career as a member of the R&B group Billy Ward and His Dominoes. Wilson's music blended rhythm and blues with elements of rock and roll, soul, and gospel, earning him the title of "Mr. Excitement" for his electrifying performances. Some of Wilson's most popular hits include "Lonely Teardrops," "Higher and Higher," and "Reet Petite." His vocal range and emotional delivery influenced many artists who came after him, including Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley. Despite personal struggles and health issues later in his career, Wilson continued to perform and record music until his untimely death in 1984 at the age of 49. Jackie Wilson's legacy lives on through his timeless music and his impact on the development of soul and R&B music. He was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987.
