Artist Biography
Willi Boskovsky was an Austrian violinist and conductor, best known for his association with the Wiener Philharmoniker. Born on June 16, 1909, in Vienna, Boskovsky showed exceptional musical talent from a young age. He joined the Vienna Academy of Music and studied violin under renowned teachers such as Otakar Ševčík. Boskovsky's career with the Wiener Philharmoniker began in 1936 when he joined the orchestra as a first violinist. He quickly rose through the ranks and eventually became the concertmaster of the orchestra in 1955. Boskovsky's leadership and musicality were highly regarded by his peers, and he was known for his impeccable technique and expressive playing style. In addition to his role as a violinist, Boskovsky also gained fame as a conductor, particularly for his interpretations of Viennese waltzes and operettas. He conducted numerous recordings and performances with the Wiener Philharmoniker, showcasing his deep understanding of the Viennese musical tradition.
