About The Chad Mitchell Trio
The Chad Mitchell Trio was an American folk music group formed in 1960, known for their harmonious vocals and socially conscious lyrics. The original lineup consisted of Chad Mitchell, Mike Kobluk, and Joe Frazier, who gained popularity during the folk music revival of the early 1960s. They were signed to Kapp Records and released several albums, blending traditional folk tunes with contemporary songs that often addressed political and social issues. The trio's sound was characterized by tight harmonies and an eclectic mix of musical influences, drawing from folk, pop, and even elements of rock. They were particularly noted for their renditions of songs like "The John Birch Society," which critiqued political extremism, and "Leaving on a Jet Plane," later popularized by Peter, Paul and Mary. Over the years, the group underwent several lineup changes, with notable members like John Denver joining temporarily. The Chad Mitchell Trio's impact on the folk scene was significant, and they helped pave the way for future folk artists. Although they disbanded in 1969, their music continues to resonate with audiences who appreciate the blend of entertainment and social commentary.
