About Mantovani

Mantovani, born as Angelo Francesco Mantovani on 15th April 1905 in Venice, Italy, was a renowned conductor and composer famous for his lush orchestral arrangements. He moved to England with his family in 1912, where he later developed his musical career. Mantovani gained popularity in the 1950s and 1960s, particularly for his unique style of light orchestral music, which featured a smooth, cascading effect known as the "cascading strings" technique. This innovative approach to arrangement allowed him to create a rich, romantic sound that appealed to a wide audience. His recordings of popular songs and classical pieces, often characterized by sweeping melodies and orchestral harmonies, earned him significant commercial success. Mantovani sold millions of records worldwide, with hits like "Charmaine" and "The Song from Moulin Rouge." He became a staple on radio and television, further solidifying his place in popular music. Throughout his career, Mantovani's music was synonymous with elegance and sophistication, making him a beloved figure in the world of easy listening. He continued to perform and record until his death on 29th March 1980 in London, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the genre.
