About Mannheim Steamroller, Chip Davis
Mannheim Steamroller is an American musical group founded by composer and entrepreneur Chip Davis in 1974. Known for their unique blend of classical music and modern rock, the group is particularly famous for their Christmas albums, which have become holiday staples. The name "Mannheim Steamroller" is inspired by an 18th-century German musical technique known as the Mannheim school, which emphasized orchestral dynamics. Chip Davis, born on October 5, 1947, in Dayton, Ohio, studied music at the University of Michigan and later pursued a career in music production and performance. He created Mannheim Steamroller to showcase his innovative approach to music, incorporating synthesizers and electronic elements into traditional compositions. The group's first album, "Mannheim Steamroller," was released in 1974, but it was their subsequent Christmas albums, particularly "Christmas" in 1984, that catapulted them to fame. Mannheim Steamroller has sold over 40 million albums in the United States alone, making them one of the best-selling holiday music artists. The group continues to tour and produce new music, maintaining a strong legacy in the holiday music genre.
