About The 6ths

The 6ths is an indie pop musical project created by the American songwriter and producer Stephen Merritt, who is also known for his work with The Magnetic Fields. Formed in the mid-1990s, The 6ths is characterized by its eclectic sound and the use of various guest vocalists, which gives each album a unique flavor. Merritt's songwriting is marked by clever wordplay, melancholic themes, and catchy melodies. The debut album, "Wasps' Nests," was released in 1995 and featured contributions from several notable artists, including Mary Timony, and the album's sound combined elements of pop, rock, and electronic music. This collaborative approach continued with subsequent albums, such as "Hyacinths and Thorns" and "The 6ths," where Merritt showcased his ability to blend different musical styles and influences. The project is known for its whimsical yet poignant lyrics, often exploring themes of love, loss, and the human experience. Although not as widely recognized as some of Merritt's other projects, The 6ths has garnered a dedicated following and remains an important part of the indie music landscape.
