John Rutter is an English composer, conductor, editor, arranger, and record producer, primarily known for his choral music. He was born on September 24, 1945, in London, England. Rutter studied music at Clare College, Cambridge, where he also served as the director of music from 1975 to 1979. Rutter's compositions are characterized by their lush harmonies, beautiful melodies, and traditional structures, making them popular choices for choirs around the world. Some of his most famous works include "Gloria," "Requiem," and "The Lord Bless You and Keep You." In addition to his work as a composer, Rutter is also a sought-after conductor and has conducted many choirs and orchestras in prestigious venues. He founded his own professional choir, the Cambridge Singers, in 1981, which has released numerous recordings of his works. John Rutter's music is beloved for its accessibility and emotional depth, making him one of the most performed and recorded choral composers of our time.
