About Common
Common, born Lonnie Rashid Lynn Jr. on March 13, 1972, in Chicago, Illinois, is an acclaimed American rapper, actor, and writer. He emerged in the early 1990s as part of the hip-hop scene, gaining recognition for his thoughtful lyrics and unique blend of jazz and soul influences. His debut album, "Can I Borrow a Dollar?" (1992), showcased his lyrical prowess, but it was his subsequent albums, particularly "Resurrection" (1994) and "Like Water for Chocolate" (2000), that solidified his status as a leading figure in conscious hip-hop. Common's music often addresses social issues, personal struggles, and the African American experience. He received critical acclaim for his collaboration with producer J Dilla, and later, his work with other artists like Kanye West. In addition to his music career, Common has ventured into acting, appearing in films such as "Selma," "John Wick," and "Wanted."
